the old Woman's daughter
<<<<Chapter iii>>>>
As she cried, her mouth foaming and eyes turning white.
Suddenly, a man appeared mysteriously. He carried her off on his shoulder and went straight to a very small hut in the forest. The man laid her down and quickly prepared some herbs for her. He forced the concoction into her mouth and later dressed the wound on her leg. After some hours, the girl sneezed and her eyes opened but she was still weak. The man brought some food and fed her and she slept off after eating.
By the time she woke up she was already fine and came to realize that the old man whom she helped with some fruits the other day was the same man who had saved her. She was surprised at such a coincidence and at the same time glad and thankful. “Thank God my child and not me,” the man told her, “for one good turn deserves another. You we’re bitten by a scorpion, but thank God my child. You are a child of destiny, Ada Nwayi. And if not for the mercy of God you wouldn’t have met me.”
The little girl was shocked. “my name is Ngozi, not Ada Nwayi.” She corrected him but the old man laughed at her.
“I know my dear,” he said, “your name is Ngozi Okafor nut I'm not mistaken if I call you Ada Nwayi, yes; that was what Eziwanyi- your mother fondly called you when she was still alive.”
Ngozi Was more shocked. “how come this strange man knows so much about me?” she thought to het self. “Who are you?” The little girl asked, and for once fear gripped her.
What if he was a spirit? What if he doesn’t allow her go back? What if he locks her up or goes away with her?
She took a proper look at the surrounding where they were and her fear only intensified. “I want to go home,” she pleaded with the man..
